Terms of Appointment

I hereby inform you that, if not previously terminated, the appointment will cease at the end of the said three years, unless it be expressly continued, and you will then be granted a first-class passage back to England, provided that you avail yourself of it within one month from the termination of your engagement. If your appointment is continued, you will be placed on the permanent and pensionable establishment of the Colony, and your salary will be increased to £205 a year, rising by annual increments of £10 to £225 a year.

1. If you wish to leave the service of the Government at any time, you will be required to give one month's notice or to pay to the Government a sum equivalent to one month's salary.

1. You will be provided with free furnished quarters and attendance in a building attached to the Civil Hospital, and will be subject to the supervision of the Superintendent and Matron of that Hospital, and to such rules as the Government may from time to time prescribe. Uniform, laundry, fuel, and light will be provided.

1. You may be required to undertake private nursing or to serve in any hospital in the Colony. On first appointment, a Nursing Sister is almost invariably attached to the Private Nursing staff, being transferred to the hospital staff as suitable vacancies occur.

1. You will be entitled to vacation and sick leave in accordance with the General Orders of the Colony relating to such leave. After such period of 4 years' resident service, you will be allowed eight months' leave on half-pay in addition to such period of vacation.
